As breeders, we are passionate about the development of our dogs. The first 12 weeks of a puppy’s life are crucial. Our puppies are raised in homes and immediately integrated into family life to help them become the best possible pets for you. We follow the Puppy Culture program, a guide to raising puppies to be calm enrichment seekers, ready to take on life's challenges with love and joy to spare.
We start with daily stimulation and smell cues to provide early neurological stimulation. We provide challenges and interactions that are appropriate for their age and breed, to set them up with a love of learning/training, a healthy attachment to humans and to allow them to engage with other dogs during this critical period of socialization. We feed our puppies a fully balanced raw food diet. Since our puppies are part of our everyday lives, we observe their individual temperaments and disposition from birth, which ultimately allows us to match them to their perfect forever homes. By the time they leave us, they are crate trained, potty trained, leash trained and well-adjusted to all the regular paces of life.
YQL Doodles is a family operated business located in Lethbridge, Alberta. Although the company officially started in 2017, it is really a lifetime pursuit of breeder Megan Clarke and her husband, Nathan. Growing up on a working ranch in southern Alberta, Megan always had a love of herding dogs. Nathan, on the other hand, grew up in the city in southern Ontario with a poodle as a family pet. Without knowing it, they initiated their first doodle mix!
Megan and Nathan knew they wanted to breed dogs, but were adamant they didn’t want to do it in a traditional kennel setting. They felt it was important to raise their dogs, as pets, in a family environment. Their passion and belief in ethical breeding practices goes deep. All breeding dogs and their pups are whelped in homes, so they can benefit from the daily interactions they have with humans and other dogs. Since many of the litters are raised in their own home, their two children are also actively involved in raising the puppies and helping with the daily puppy culture.
After extensive research and conversations with specialists and geneticists, Megan and Nathan knew they wanted to do things differently from traditional breeders. Especially interested in genetics, Megan was seeing personality and temperament issues in Labradoodles and Goldendoodles that were not consistent with what she felt made the best family pets. Instead, she saw that when a herding dog, such as an Australian Shepherd or a Bernese Mountain Dog was used in place of a Retriever or Lab, better temperaments could be achieved. This was the start of our story and raising the perfect puppy for you to have as a beloved family member.
